My Revelation at the Madonna Concert

Webster’s dictionary defines revelation as “the making known of something that was previously secret or unknown.” A Course in Miracles defines it this way. “Revelation induces complete but temporary suspension of doubt and fear. Revelation unites you directly with God.” I certainly was not expecting to have a revelation at the American Airlines Arena on Saturday night during the Madonna concert. I’m still not completely certain which definition describes my experience. Whatever it was, I know I will never forget it. If felt like a tiny glimpse of Heaven, Perfect Oneness, Atonement, or Being One with the Light. To me these words are interchangeable. After it happened, I wasn’t sure I would ever share the experience with anyone. I didn’t say a word about it for two days. Then, on Miracle Monday, I felt inspired to talk about it at the beginning of our ACIM discussion group during the time I invite people to share “miracle moments” from the previous week. As I did, I felt the peaceful energy wash over me again and fill the room. I guess that’s why I’m sharing it again here. Perhaps that same peace will wash over you as you read these words.

I was already feeling deep gratitude simply for being at the concert. My friend Vito had surprised me last summer with the gift of a ticket for my birthday. We had great seats on the second level overlooking the entire stage and cross-shaped runway. The heart-shaped platform at the end of the runway where Madonna performed much of the show was right below us. The show began with dramatic images displayed on the huge video screen behind the main stage. Madonna’s voiceover invited us to join her in starting a revolution. Dancers wearing robes and carrying gleaming metallic crosses swarmed the stage. They created different formations all along the runway as Madonna made her entrance descending from the ceiling in a metal cage. Needless to say, there was a lot to look at! The costumes. The choreography. The crosses. The visual effects that danced across the stage and that huge video screen were mesmerizing. The lighting design was spectacular. I noticed very quickly that there was a row of super bright backlights aimed right at us in the second tier. Many times we couldn’t see what was happening onstage because those powerful lights were shining directly in our eyes.

It must have been the end of her first or second song when those lights got so incredibly bright that they slowly filled up my entire field of vision. Eventually all I could see was that magnificent light. The rest of the arena melted away and it got very calm and quiet. I’m not quite sure how that happened in a stadium full of approximately 14,000 people. It felt like a luminescent blanket of peace had been placed over the entire arena, much like the stillness that happens after new fallen snow. For a few moments, time stood still. The only thing I felt was complete love, contentment, and gratitude. While it was happening, I distinctly remember thinking, “This must be what Perfect Oneness feels like. Just love, peace, gratitude, and light.” I couldn’t tell you how long this lasted. It was probably only a few seconds, but those few seconds changed me forever. I now know what it feels like to be completely content and to see only light everywhere. I don’t know if anyone else experienced this phenomenon. I haven’t asked Vito if he remembers a moment in the show where the lights got so bright he couldn’t see anything else. It doesn’t really matter whether I experienced what the Course calls revelation, or just a moment of super cool lighting effects and extreme gratitude during a concert. Either way, I definitely experienced “the making known of something that was previously secret or unknown.” And for that, I will always be grateful.

Are you ready for a revelation of your own? They happen all the time during Family Constellations workshops and private sessions. That’s one of the many reasons they are so amazing. What was previously secret or unknown is revealed, allowing that presence of peace to wash over you. The same thing happens during Life Coaching sessions. I would love to share some of the principles of A Course in Miracles and other light-shedding tools with you to help you illuminate some of the dark and challenging areas of your life. Please visit my website for more information about both, or contact me directly if you have specific questions.

Until next time, may the peace that passes all understanding bless you with its presence no matter where you are…

My Gift from Hugh Jackman

Once in a while something happens that is such a mind blowing coincidence that your jaw drops like Wile E. Coyote in a Roadrunner cartoon and you know there has to be more going on than meets the eye. This happened to me last week. I love listening to “Magical Things” with Radleigh Valentine every Thursday at 5 PM on Hay House Radio. The man truly is a miracle worker. With his compassionate heart, infectious giggle, and intuitive angel card readings, Radleigh assists the people who call in with questions and challenges to shift from fear back to love. Last Thursday he did a special show on how to connect with your guardian angels and how to discover their names. I believe angels are one of the many means that Spirit uses to send messages of Love to us here in the dream. Even though I have paintings of angels all over my apartment, I hadn’t thought about my personal guardian angel or her name in almost eight years.

I had been studying A Course in Miracles for about a year back in December of 2007.  I was beginning to tap in to my intuition and become more open to celestial assistance, so I decided it was time to ask my guardian angel to reveal her name to me. Somehow I had a sense she was female. Not long after I asked this question, one of my very sweet massage clients gave me an Amaryllis plant to give to my mother for Christmas. I had never heard of this plant before, and the name really struck me. Was this my guardian angel’s way of telling me her name? I shared this thought with some spiritual friends from my rose quartz family and they encouraged me to start communicating with her using this name. I did this for a while, but as time went on, I started second guessing my intuition, and eventually I stopped using the name. Ironically, one of the things Radleigh emphasized during the show was not to doubt or second guess the answer you get once you ask. He also said confirmation will show up in every day life to reinforce the answer, so keep your eyes and ears open.

When the show ended, I sent Radleigh a note thanking him for reminding me about Amaryllis. Then, since I was still recovering from my cold and sinus symptoms, I settled in to watch a DVD that I had been wanting to see since last summer. Kate & Leopold came as part of a double DVD set with the movie Serendipity which I ordered after my birthday weekend in New York City. Both movies take place in the Big Apple, but I watched Serendipity right away because that was the movie we talked about during our trip. I wasn’t in a hurry to see Kate & Leopold because I had already seen it years ago. The funny thing is, I had a connection with the names Kate and Leopold back in 2004 during my first spiritual gathering over Valentine’s Day Weekend. That’s when I met my rose quartz family. I remembered there was a movie titled Kate & Leopold that came out in 2001, so after that gathering, I rented it thinking there might be a message in it for me. I have to admit I was a little disappointed when I watched it that first time. The movie was okay, but I did not find any specific message in it for me. That was about to change.

The movie stars Meg Ryan as Kate, an independent career woman living in modern day New York City. Her eccentric ex-boyfriend, Stuart, who lives in the apartment above her, discovers a rip in the fabric of time below the Brooklyn Bridge. He falls through the rip and travels back to the New York City of 1876. That’s where he encounters Leopold, the Duke of Albany, played by Hugh Jackman. While chasing Stuart, Leopold accidentally falls through the same time rip and ends up in modern day New York City with Stuart. Thinking he has no other options, Stuart brings Leopold back to his apartment where he eventually meets Kate and her brother Charlie. They think Leopold is an actor and his unusual manners and way of speaking are preparation for an acting role. Leopold and Charlie become friends, and Leopold begins coaching his new friend on the proper way to court a female. While in a flower shop, Charlie randomly picks out a prepackaged bouquet for the girl he is smitten with, but Leopold tells him the flowers he has selected are all wrong. He proceeds to tell him what each flower means and why it’s not appropriate. Then he brings out an unusual looking potted plant and says, “Might I suggest the Amaryllis which declares the recipient a most splendid beauty.” That’s when my jaw hit the floor like a cartoon coyote and any remaining doubts about the name of my guardian angel vanished. Yes, this was the very same day Radleigh did the show on guardian angels!

Synchronicities like this happen all the time during Family Constellations. The threads of commonality that run through each workshop never cease to amaze me. The healing that takes place is unprecedented. Come experience it for yourself, and see how we are much more alike than we are different. Participants arrive as strangers and leave as family. Life Coaching is another way to get back in touch with the magic and miracles of life. During our sessions I will share tools and methods that have helped me remain peaceful during trying times. When we are at peace, we are much more able to receive loving messages and guidance from Spirit. For more information please visit my website or you can send me an email directly. Until next time, I leave you with Miracle Principle #6 from A Course in Miracles:

“Miracles are natural. When they do not occur, something has gone wrong.”

Have a miraculous week!

Don’t Ask Why!

Ask Why

Why is this happening? I caught myself whining this very disempowering question on Monday morning after sneezing four times in a row while heading to the beach for my power walk. Through watery eyes, I gazed at my reflection in my rear view mirror as I wiped my runny nose with a tissue. I looked like a bad Nyquil commercial. I couldn’t believe it. Here I was coming off a 9 day cleanse to restore health and balance to my body, and now I felt a cold coming on. How was this possible? I had been feeling great all week except for that weird scratchy sensation in my throat over the weekend. Uh oh!  My mind started running through the events of the past few days and weeks, looking for the cause of my symptoms. Was it the recent cold weather? Was I around someone who was coughing and sneezing? Was it because I stayed up until almost 5 AM one morning to edit a video for my YouTube channel? On and on it went. The search continued as I parked my car and did my pre-walk stretching. More questions arose. How was I going to facilitate our Miracle Monday group from 1-2:30 if my nose wouldn’t stop running? How would I do a coaching session afterwards? That’s when I remembered Lesson 25 from A Course in Miracles:  “I do not know what anything is for.”

The ego, also known as the voice of fear, refutes this statement because it wants us to believe it has all the answers. It also wants to find something or someone on the outside to blame for our unpleasant experiences so we continue to feel powerless. It’s mantra is “seek but do not find,” and we will never find the cause “out there.” Later in Lesson 25 it says, “Everything is for your own best interest.” I know. This is certainly difficult to see in many cases. The ego doesn’t want us to believe this either. However, Spirit, or the voice of Love, reminds us that there is always a bigger plan at work so we don’t ever have to be afraid or figure anything out.  Asking questions like, “Why is this happening?” is a waste of time. The ego’s script will never make sense. You can have a great interview and still not get the job. You can be the most loving person in the world and still find yourself in the middle of a divorce. You can do a cleanse and take care of your body and still get a cold. Here’s the good news. Spirit can use any of these unpleasant experiences as teaching devices to remind us of the Truth. We are not our bodies and we are never separate from our Source. It is much more beneficial to ask questions like, “How can I move forward from here? What can I do to return to a loving, peaceful state of mind?” If you don’t know the answers to these questions, just ask the voice of Love. It will tell you. It told me to stop asking pointless questions and start walking!

I felt a sense of surrender as I stuffed tissues in my pockets in preparation for what I thought would be a very drippy and miserable beach walk. I was wrong. Once I got moving, my nose stopped running and I was breathing the salt air easily. I didn’t need any of those tissues (or my sleeve!) A miracle happened. My nose wasn’t healed, but my fearful thoughts had shifted back to love. I thoroughly enjoyed that walk. I wish I could say that my cold symptoms never returned, but no such luck. My nose started dripping again later that afternoon as I played the crystal singing bowl to begin our group. I am grateful that my symptoms didn’t return full force until I got home. I caught myself slipping back into that “why” question a few times, but each time I released it and let it be. Fortunately, the next day my calendar was completely clear, so I was able to rest, use my Neti pot, and let the cold run its course.

Though not pleasant, this experience helped me understand some of these ACIM concepts on a deeper level. Life is always giving us opportunities to learn. It’s always working for us, never against us, despite outward appearances. If you are having difficulty seeing your current situation as working for you, now is a great time to give yourself the gift of Life Coaching. It brings me great joy to share tools from the Course and other spiritual teachings that have helped me see things differently. Family Constellations is another great tool that helps you see things from another perspective. You will be amazed to discover how hidden family loyalties may be affecting your life choices today. Join me for an upcoming group session or schedule a one-on-one session. One-on-one sessions can be done in person or over the phone. Until next time, keep asking empowering questions and don’t ask why!

Releasing Burdens, Snowballs, & Seashells

Happy New Year, Spiritual Friends and Family!

Well, it’s that time of year.  You know the one.  When you ask yourself, “Can I stop saying Happy New Year when I greet people yet?”  I trust I am still in the acceptable window even though we have just about wrapped up the first week of 2016.  How has it been for you?  If it hasn’t gone the way you would like, don’t worry.  You don’t have to wait until December 31 to hit the reset button.  You can do it today!  I didn’t hit the reset button until January 2 this year.  For the past several years I have attended a burning bowl ceremony at a Unity church, or had my own private ceremony wherever I was living.  If you aren’t familiar with this ritual, it’s a gathering where everyone is invited to write down on small slips of paper the things they would like to release and not carry into the New Year.  Then each person burns their paper in a bowl where it (and their burdens) are literally transformed into ashes.  Circumstances did not allow me to do this on New Year’s Eve, but I made it a point to do it the next night.

I woke up on January 1 feeling tired and heavy.  No, I wasn’t hungover.  I drank only water the night before, but perhaps it was a spiritual hangover.  My morning beach walk and a nap didn’t seem to help, so I decided to try another tactic.  It was time to clean house both externally and internally.  I took down my tiny Christmas Tree and put away all the decorations.  With the windows open to let in fresh air, I gave my apartment a thorough cleaning.  Then I smudged the entire space with a cedar wood stick.  Once that was done, I took a shower to clear my own energy.  During my shower, I made a mental list of all the things that felt heavy in my heart.  Anything that was weighing me down or keeping me stuck went on that list.  When I got out of the shower, I wrote those things down on small slips of paper.  Then I took the slips of paper, a lit candle, and a few sage leaves behind my apartment building to burn and transform them in a small fire.  I do this often with the papers from Family Constellations workshops to symbolically transform the energy of those people, places, and things that were represented.  I wonder if my neighbors suspect me of witchcraft or illegal drug use when they see me disappear behind the building with a lighter, small slips of paper, and a candle.  In any case, after all the activity of that day, I was exhausted.  Sleep came easily and early that night.

I’m happy to report that I woke up on January 2 feeling much lighter and ready to receive the blessings of 2016.  I’m so glad I followed my inspiration to do those rituals.  It may seem silly to some, but rituals provide our body with something tangible to do, which then sends our unconscious mind a powerful message that something has changed.  Since the mind controls our experience, that’s where we need to start for lasting change to occur.  If you haven’t already, I highly recommend doing your own burning bowl ceremony.  If that seems complicated or isn’t possible, there are other options.  You can find a stone somewhere outside, hold it to your heart, and feel all the heavy thoughts pour into it.  Then toss that stone in a flower bed, river, lake, stream, or pond.  If stones in your area are covered in snow, make a snowball, hold it to your heart, and then toss it in a snowbank.  Whatever the climate, Mother Nature will gladly take this energy for you.  If you happen to live close to the ocean like I do, you can do this with one or more seashells.  Hold each one to your heart before tossing them into the waves.  You can also write words or symbols that represent what you want to release in the sand, then watch the waves wash them away for you.

If something comes up in your day that tries to take away your inner peace, you don’t have to run for a candle or a seashell.  Try this simple prayer based on the teachings of A Course in Miracles:

“Holy Spirit, thank you for helping me forgive myself for using ____________  to attack myself and separate from your Love.”

Fill in the blank with whatever is upsetting you or making you feel heavy. Feel free to replace “Holy Spirit” with words that work for you.  It amazes me how fast this prayer works every time I use it!

Of course, for those persistent issues and challenges, it might be time to ask for some assistance.  I would be honored to help you release any thoughts or beliefs that you know are no longer serving you.  Family Constellations is a great way to do this.  It works in a group or one-on-one session.  Life Coaching is another great gift you can give yourself to help make 2016 different than the rest.  Sometimes we just need a little push and some new tools to get us past our current obstacles.  Please visit my website for more information.

Until next time, remember that you have the power to hit the reset button anytime, anywhere, just by taking a slow deep breath.

New Year Blessings!
