Miracle Dog & the Florida Sky

I had a magical experience the other night. Instead of getting right to work on this email as I normally do after dinner on Tuesdays, Spirit gave me a nudge to go to the beach. I love being at the beach as the sun goes down. It is my absolute favorite time to be there. The heat of the day has passed and there usually aren’t a lot of people around. I hadn’t been there at this time in a while, so I decided to act on the impulse. I’m so glad I did! The Florida sky was about to put on another spectacular light show while teaching me about the power of intention.
When I arrived, the sky was a beautiful pale blue scattered with puffy white and gray clouds. A soft sea breeze greeted me as I placed my beach blanket a short distance from a sea turtle nest. I wanted to share energy with the new life forming in the sand below. Sitting next to the nest watching and listening to the ebb and flow of the waves brought me to a place of deep peace and contentment. Those silvery, shimmering waves and the soothing breeze carried my cares away. I was fully present in the moment watching a dog frolic in the surf with her human counterpart. Several minutes passed before I noticed that the dog was missing her right hind leg. Not having that leg didn’t seem to slow her down one bit. It was very inspiring to see her pay no attention to her challenge, and focus only on the ball being thrown for her. It reminded me of a beautiful passage I read this week in A Course in Miracles that really struck a chord with me. It was in a section called “Setting the Goal” in Chapter 17.

The value of deciding in advance what you want to happen is simply that you will perceive the situation as a means to make it happen. You will therefore make every effort to overlook what interferes with the accomplishment of your objective, and concentrate on everything that helps you meet it.

This is exactly what that dog was doing. Her goal was to get that ball, and she overlooked any of the obstacles in her way. The power of intention is not a new concept. Wayne Dyer wrote a whole book about it. But this perspective from the Course hit home for me in a new way. It’s not just about manifesting what I want in the physical world. If my goal is to have a peaceful day, then I will seek out experiences that support that and avoid experiences that don’t. I will also be open to nudges from Spirit telling me to go to the beach instead of worrying about not having time to write my weekly email.

As I watched that dog play, the sun dropped closer to the horizon behind me. The pale blue sky shifted into an indigo color, and the clouds became a dark gray. All of a sudden the shifting light patterns formed a huge V in the sky directly in front of me. Indigo turned to dark purple, and bold pinks started to seep in on either side of the V. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was witnessing a living kaleidoscope. Eventually, the sky darkened and the V disappeared, but Mother Nature wasn’t done yet. The spectacular light show concluded with sporadic bursts of lightning illuminating a huge cloud formation way off shore. I’m taking a deep breath just reliving the experience. I set my goal that day to experience peace, and that is exactly the experience I had.

Do you feel like there is too much going on in your life to set a goal like that? Then now is the time to reach out for some assistance. I’d love to help you create more peace in your world. I currently have a few weekly appointment times available for Life CoachingContact me if you’d like to begin a four, six, or eight week program to help you move past whatever is challenging you. Perhaps the reason you feel stuck has more to do with something heavy you are carrying for your ancestors. Family Constellations can help you release that burden so you can be free. The process is simply amazing. Please look around my website for more information about Life Coaching, Family Constellations, and upcoming workshops.

Until next time, think about what you want to experience before you start your day, and then watch it unfold like a kaleidoscope right before your eyes!

Joy & The Art of Allowing

I am constantly reminded that Life, God, the Universe, whatever you call it, has a sense of humor and joy is an essential ingredient of spirituality. This weekend I experienced a lot of joy while hosting my dear friend, Carrie Stiers, in my home. Carrie and I met at the Hay House “I Can Do It Conference” in Orlando last October. Some might call it a chance meeting, but I think our souls had a date with destiny. Spirit orchestrated the two of us to sit in the same row at the very last breakout session. As soon as we made eye contact during one of Denise Linn’s exercises, I felt a strong connection with her. After the event, we talked, hugged, and found each other on Instagram.  At first our only communication was through social media, but it eventually led to text messaging, phone conversations, and then her visit this weekend. What a weekend we had! We laughed, cried, shared stories and insights, and sang more than a few 70’s sitcom theme songs. I’m not sure which I’m more impressed with, her intuitive ability, or her ability to remember the words to all those songs!

One of the highlights of the weekend was the Facebook Live event Carrie and I co-hosted on Sunday. If you missed it, you can watch the replay pinned to the top of my Peace Through Oneness FaceBook page. When she asked me a few weeks ago to do it, I said “yes” without really knowing what I was saying “yes” to. Now I know that it is a live video that is shown on your Facebook page where people can watch and post comments and questions. We can see their posts as we are streaming, which allows us to interact and answer their questions. Carrie and I decided to talk about the Art of Allowing and how we don’t have to make or force anything to happen in our lives. We simply allow it. Well, at 2 pm we both hit “go live” on our iPhones. Her phone started showing the video. Mine was a black screen. That was not allowed!

I asked Carrie to keep talking and share something profound while I stepped away to open Facebook on my computer. I thought perhaps the video was streaming to my page even though it was not showing on my phone. Unfortunately, my computer wouldn’t connect to the Internet, so I had no way of knowing if the video was streaming. I decided to sit back down next to Carrie and surrender to the fact that it would only be shown live on her page. I felt peaceful about it, especially since earlier we had talked about sharing it on only one page to keep it simple. If that’s the way the Universe wanted it to happen, I would allow it. The funny thing is, as soon as I made the decision to allow it to be what it wanted to be, Carrie suggested I try one more time to open up Facebook on my phone. I closed the app and opened it again. The video immediately popped up on the screen and we were both LIVE! The irony of this was not lost on me. During the event we both shared many personal stories on how we have practiced the Art of Allowing. Apparently Spirit wanted to give me the opportunity to practice what I preach in real time! I do hope you will check it out. The feedback we have been receiving has been wonderful and encouraging. I know we will be doing more Facebook Live events together.

Are you having a hard time allowing what you desire to come to you? Are you still chasing relationships, jobs, or money, wondering why they stay just out of reach? Please contact Carrie or me to get some assistance in the Art of Allowing. We both offer Life Coaching to help you let in more of what you want and less of what you don’t want. Carrie is an incredible intuitive counselor and psychic medium. Over the weekend she shared some great insights and asked some laser beam questions that helped give me clarity and direction. Her website is under construction, but you can contact Carrie for a reading or coaching by clicking these links on Facebook or Instagram to send her a message. Don’t forget to “like” and “follow” her while you are there. She shares great inspirational quotes and card readings on a daily basis.

Listen and Choose Love

A few weeks ago I was listening to Anita Moorjani’s show “Explore the Extraordinary” on Hay House Radio as I often do on the drive to my weekly Wednesday client. I started listening after the show had begun, so I didn’t know who Anita was speaking with, but the conversation was thought provoking. The two women were discussing how we tell kids all the time what not to do, “Say no to drugs. Stop bullying. Don’t have sex.” But rarely do we tell them what they can do when they are feeling angry, stressed or confused. Anita’s guest pointed out that kids having a difficult time don’t raise their hands in class and say, “Excuse me, Ms. Johnson. I am experiencing a lot of strong emotions that I do not know how to process. Could I please schedule an appointment with you and the guidance counselor at your earliest convenience?” No, but they do let us know in other ways if we are observant. I later found out Anita was speaking with someone who knows all too well what happens when a young person does not know what to do with anger and confusion.

Her guest was Scarlett Lewis, the mother of Jesse Lewis, one of the twenty Sandy Hook Elementary School children who was killed in the tragic shooting in December of 2012. Scarlett wrote a beautiful book titled Nurturing Healing Love: A Mother’s Journey of Hope & Forgiveness. And what an inspiring journey it was and continues to be! The book is full of remarkable stories leading up to that day, as well as the many messages she has received from Jesse since his passing. The title was inspired by the three words Jesse wrote on a chalk board just days before the shooting: nurturing healing love. Scarlett did not see these words until after the incident. Because these words were not typical for him (or any first grader for that matter), she knew it was a special message from Jesse instructing her how to carry on after the tragedy. These words inspired her to start the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation to teach kids what they can do when they are angry, confused, or feeling stressed. The following words are directly from the foundation’s website.

The Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement collaborates with professional educators to bring lasting meaning to Jesse’s murder by developing school-based educational programs to change our current culture of violence to one of safety, peace and love for everyone in our world. This is the single guiding principle, the sole purpose and motto of our work: Teaching others to Choose Love.

Rather than analyzing the details of incidents like this looking for someone to blame, doesn’t it make more sense to focus our attention on a solution? By bringing programs like this to schools everywhere, we can teach children of all ages how to choose love more consistently. If Scarlett can say that she is still choosing love over anger, even for the shooter, we all can. She realized that not choosing love would keep her stuck in the pain of that horrible December day. It really touched me when she said she believes there were 28 victims that day, not the usual 26 associated with the Sandy Hook incident. She includes the shooter and his mother who also died that day. This is the kind of thinking that will change the world to one where love prevails and senseless acts of violence are a thing of the past.

I have no doubt that if you aren’t already inspired to support the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation in some way, you will be when you read Scarlett’s book. I know it’s a heavy topic, but don’t let that prevent you from reading it. Scarlett doesn’t dwell in the sadness, and neither should we. With honesty, tenderness, and courage, she shares what happened, her healing process, and all the love and miracles that have occurred through it all. In fact, I had my own miracle while reading this book. “Coincidentally,” I finished reading it on June 30, which just happens to be Jesse’s birthday. When I made this connection, I got that tingling sensation all through my body. It felt like Jesse had just recruited me to help share his message. What better birthday gift could I give him than to say yes? I hope you will say yes too.

I also say yes to doing more Family Constellations and Life Coaching based on A Course in Miracles. Both are a powerful ways to help adults choose love over fear. Please visit my website for more information and to register for an upcoming event.

For those of you in South Florida, I’d like to bring your attention to another program that has been helping children for over 40 years. The Listeners Program is a team of volunteers that give K-12 school children in Miami-Dade County a safe place to express their feelings and be heard. Listeners don’t offer advice or try to fix anything. They simply listen. Please visit the Listeners Program online to learn more about this one of a kind opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life just by your presence. Click HERE to read what kids who have had Listeners are saying about their experience. There’s still time to be trained to become a Listener for the upcoming school year.

Until next time, keep listening and keep choosing love!

Snail Crossings and Forgiveness Opportunities

Life continues to give us what I like to call “forgiveness opportunities.” Just the other day I had one while driving through a busy intersection. The light had turned green and I was beginning to move forward when a blue pick up truck came barreling through the intersection. The driver was making a left turn so his truck was heading right for me. Luckily, I hit my brakes in time to avoid a collision. That’s when something strange happened. Instead of the usual indignation that might have followed a near miss like that, I felt a wave of compassion for that driver. In that moment, I thought about my recent error in judgment where I thought I had gotten my friend in trouble. I imagined the driver feeling just as badly as I had. Maybe he simply made an error in judgement and thought he would make it through the intersection in time. Maybe he was lost in thought and didn’t notice the light had changed. Whatever the case, I am guessing on some level he felt guilty for almost causing an accident, so I chose to send him love instead of anger. I immediately felt peace and a tingling sensation wash over my body. I have learned that when I get that tingling sensation, it is Spirit telling me, “Pay attention. This is important.”

It was a very important lesson. When I remember to apply the teachings of A Course in Miracles to whatever is happening in my life, I feel peace. It really works! Do I always remember? No. Today, for instance, I did not have the same compassion for the man who took his sweet time crossing the street in front of me. He was walking slower than a snail’s pace while chatting on his cell phone. I know because I saw an actual snail passing him on the left. Okay. I made that part up. But it sure looked like this man slowed down right in front of my car well after the light had turned green. In that moment, I was not happy. I remembered to forgive myself for judging him a few minutes later, but there was no tingling sensation this time. Perhaps I will remember to have compassion the next time a snail crosses the street in front of me. As the Course says,

Trials are but lessons that you failed to learn presented once again, so where you made a faulty choice before you now can make a better one, and thus escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you.

Does it feel like you are getting the same trials over and over again? Would you like some help to make a better choice and escape the resulting pain? I base all of my Life Coaching programs on the strong principles of A Course in Miracles. Please visit my website for more information about a four, six, or eight week program to help you move forward faster than a snail. Family Constellations is another great tool to help you break free from those repeating patterns. You may be surprised to learn what is holding you back is related to your family’s history. Once you see the connection, you can choose differently. Join me for an upcoming workshop or schedule a private session in person, by phone, or via Skype.

Until next time, remember you always have the power to make another choice!
