Spiritual Algebra

During this time of Easter there is a lot of talk about sacrifice. I think it’s a good time to pull the plug on the idea that Love requires us to sacrifice something. If I truly love someone, why would I ask them to give up something that brings them joy? That doesn’t sound like a very loving request. Practically speaking, it wouldn’t be good for me either. If the person makes that sacrifice, it is very likely they will carry some kind of resentment toward me whether they are aware of it or not. That won’t foster a loving environment for our relationship to blossom. I know I would not be happy if someone asked me to give up something that brings me joy. Now if the something that brings me joy is ultimately harmful to my wellbeing, yes, it makes sense to give it up. But when it feels like I’m being asked to give up something for the sake of Love, you can be sure that resentment will be a factor in that equation.

I’ve been working on a Spiritual Algebra problem like this for about a year and a half now. If you’ve been reading my weekly stories for any length of time, you know that I love my time near Mother Ocean and that I live only three miles from the beach in Fort Lauderdale. That will change next month when I move to Houston, Texas to be with my partner. We’ve been maintaining a long distance relationship since October of 2016. Of the two of us, my work is much more portable. I do most of my Life Coaching and private Family Constellations sessions by phone or Skype, so I can work anywhere that has WiFi or cell phone service. I purposely set up my life like this so I could live in a warm climate near the ocean. Isn’t the Universe hilarious? The very thing I created made me the one easier to move!

I am so grateful to my partner for not putting pressure on me to give up something that I love. He is very aware how much being near Mother Ocean feeds my soul, and he has been nothing but supportive and understanding through this whole process. If I had made the move any sooner, it might have felt like I was sacrificing a lot in the name of Love. However, since neither one of us rushed the process, our relationship has flourished and more and more opportunities have revealed themselves in Houston. Now it does not feel like a sacrifice to leave Florida. Will I miss my spiritual family and that turquoise water? Of course! My intention is to come back and visit as often as I can. The point is, if I were leaving Florida while feeling like I was sacrificing something, I would be packing a lot more than just my clothes in my suitcase. I’d be packing some unconscious resentments too.

A Course in Miracles has some powerful words on this subject in Section X of Chapter 15:

Your confusion of sacrifice and love is so profound that you cannot conceive of love without sacrifice. And it is this that you must look upon; sacrifice is attack, not love. If you would accept but this one idea, your fear of love would vanish. Guilt cannot last when the idea of sacrifice has been removed. For if there is sacrifice, someone must pay and someone must get. And the only question that remains is how much is the price, and for getting what.

Do you feel like you are sacrificing your happiness and peace of mind so everyone else can be happy? This can be exhausting and ultimately not beneficial to anyone. I invite you to practice Spiritual Algebra and take the word “sacrifice” out of the equation. I would be honored to assist you with some tools and techniques that have worked for me during a single session or series of Life Coaching sessions. Family Constellations is another powerful technique to help you release the pattern of self-sacrifice so you can live the happy, healthy life you were meant to live. Please look around my website for more information about these opportunities or send me an email to schedule a session.

Until next time, may you practice Spiritual Algebra and remove sacrifice from all of your Love Equations!

A Little Mexican Miracle

This week I’d like to share just a quick little Mexican miracle with you. For anyone who has been reading my weekly emails for a while, it’s no secret that one of my favorite foods is pizza, but I also love Mexican food. I particularly enjoy Chipotle Mexican Grill because the food is fresh and fast. As anyone who frequents this establishment knows, one of the questions they ask while preparing your meal is whether you would like mild, medium, or hot salsa. I don’t have a high tolerance for spicy food, so I always ask for mild. However, even the mild salsa is made with a lot of onions which have never been a friend to my stomach. I do my best to set the onions aside, but inevitably I eat some and my stomach is not happy.

Lately I have been ordering my meal without salsa to avoid upsetting my stomach, but I have missed the splash of red in my burrito bowl. The other day on my way to Chipotle I considered getting the meal to go and coming home to add my own chopped tomatoes. Instead, I took a chance and asked the nice woman behind the counter if it was possible for me to get diced tomatoes instead of salsa on top. Apparently this woman was very intuitive. She smiled and said, “It’s the onions, isn’t it?” When I replied “yes” she went back to the kitchen and fetched me a cup of diced tomatoes. Right then and there my perception shifted from fear of getting an upset stomach to love for this woman’s kindness. A Course in Miracles defines a miracle as any shift in perception from fear to love, so this was indeed a little Mexican miracle!

This may not seem like a big deal to you, but to me, it was a powerful reminder to ask for what I want without automatically assuming that it isn’t possible. The Universe has unlimited resources and ways to help us manifest our dreams, whether our current dream is to have a new job, a new relationship, or just a cup of diced tomatoes. As A Course in Miracles states in Miracle Principle Number 1:

There is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not “harder” or “bigger” than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal.

Is there an area of your life where you would like to shift from fear to love? I would be honored to help you get into a miracle-minded state of readiness with a Life Coaching session or series of sessions. All of my sessions are based on the strong principles found in A Course in Miracles and other New Thought teachings. Family Constellations is another way to experience miracles in your life. Please join me for an upcoming group session or schedule a private session in person, by phone, or via Skype. You will be amazed by what is revealed and healed in these sessions. Until next time, may your days be filled with an abundance of miracles large and small!

Let it Snow! Let it Go! Let it Snow!

I’m at Serenity Farm in Virginia this week facilitating group and private Family Constellations sessions. Last week when I saw the snowflake icon on the weather forecast for Monday in Richmond, VA I was not jumping for joy. I grew up in Upstate New York and graduated from Syracuse University, so I’m no stranger to snow. However, I have lived in Florida for the last 25 years and during that time I have not missed the snow or cold winters one tiny bit. Not only was I not looking forward to the colder temperatures this week, but I was concerned that the snow would make it difficult or impossible for clients to get to Serenity Farm from the city.

When I woke up on Monday morning there was no snow on the ground. It seemed the forecasters had overestimated the chance for snow. Then around 11 AM, little white flakes started drifting down outside the windows during my first private session. At first it was just a few flakes, but they were joined by lots of flakey friends quickly. It started coming down so fast that by the time we were done with the session the grass was no longer visible and all the trees and bushes had a light dusting of snow on them. Luckily, the snow was not sticking on the roads yet so my client was able to get home without any trouble.

I have to admit the snow was beautiful. There is something very peaceful about snowflakes falling all around you, especially when you are out in nature. Serenity Farm is nestled among the woods on all sides with beautiful trees, large fields, a garden, and a pond. It definitely lives up to its name, and with the snow falling it felt even more serene. Over the weekend we had very powerful constellations where unexpected family dynamics were revealed leading to deep healing for all of the participants. The snow felt like Mother Nature’s way of clearing the energy of the land and blessing it with peace and tranquility.

I don’t think it was an accident that my hostess at Serenity Farm had invited Jane, the owner of Alchemists Books and Gifts for the Spirit in Richmond and her guest, William Brisson, who does space clearing and energy healing for a visit that afternoon. We were so happy that the snow did not prevent them from getting here. In fact, it sure felt like it made their first visit to Serenity Farm even more magical. The four of us had a wonderful conversation about the work we do and how we found the spiritual path as millions of snowflakes danced outside the windows. It was a great reminder for me that it’s all about perspective. The very thing that I was dreading turned out to be a magical gift!

Is there an event or situation in your life that you are dreading? I would be honored to help you see it from a different perspective with a Life Coaching session or series of sessions, or a private Family Constellations session. Both are excellent tools to help you change the way you look at things. As Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Please look around my website for more information about these opportunities or send me an email to schedule an appointment in person, by phone, or via Skype.

Until next time, I invite you to be open to the possibility that the very thing you are dreading might be a blessing in disguise.

Skyway to Heaven

I had a wonderful time at the Empower Music Posi Awards last Sunday evening in Tampa, FL. What a blessing to meet musicians from all over the country who write and sing songs with a positive message. The awards show was actually more like a concert. Each nominee performed their song before the winner was announced. I was grateful to be there soaking up the loving energy and positive vibes created by those committed to using their gifts and talents as a force for good in the world.

My heart was wide open as I drove home to Fort Lauderdale on Monday. I headed south on Interstate 275 crossing a huge bridge known as the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. This beautiful piece of architecture connects the gorgeous beach city of St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia Island. Because the bridge makes an arc high above the waters of Tampa Bay, as I approached it the road appeared to take off into the sky and never come down. I was not able to see the other side. In fact, the only things visible were the road in front of me and the towering steel cables supporting the bridge in the center. It caught me by surprise when a little wave of fear passed through me at this sight.

At that moment it occurred to me what a beautiful metaphor for life this was, especially now that I am about to embark on a new chapter of my life. We never get to know exactly what’s on the other side of the bridge waiting for us in the future, and that’s okay. We simply have to focus on the road in front of us and trust that if we keep going and stay on the road, it will take us someplace magical. This moment felt like such a profound message from Spirit that I had to grab my phone to capture a photo. I know. My guardian angels work overtime to keep me safe. When you see the photo you’ll notice there were no cars in my immediate vicinity, but the sunlight beaming down through my windshield let me know I was protected.

This message had a double meaning for me because Terra Ceia (which I have been told translates to “Heaven on Earth” in English) is where I attended my first Native American Ceremony over Valentine’s Day Weekend in 2004. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I said yes to that invitation, but something in me knew I was supposed to be there. That weekend I learned about Animal Totems, the Native American Medicine Wheel, and how to honor the Four Directions. It’s also where I met my Rose Quartz Family and began the ritual of placing tiny rose quartz crystals everywhere I go to create a web of love and peace around the planet. Needless to say, this spot on Planet Earth feels magical to me and will always have a special place in my heart.

Even though I hadn’t been back to that island in over ten years, I found myself being guided right back to the house where my teacher used to live. For those who know my sense of direction or lack thereof, this was a miracle in itself! I felt so grateful to be back on the land that gave me so much learning and healing. I parked my car as inconspicuously as I could behind some trees at the edge of the property so I wouldn’t alarm the new owners if they happened to be home. I rolled down my windows, tossed some rose quartz into the trees next to my car, and then just sat there in silence for a few moments. The peaceful energy was just as I remembered it. What a full circle moment to be able to honor where my spiritual journey kicked into high gear fourteen years ago (two cycles of seven) almost to the day. I wonder where this next sacred cycle of seven years will take me? The good news is, I don’t have to know that now. I just have to keep focusing on the road in front of me and trust that I will be able to create magic and miracles wherever I am.

Are you having trouble seeing how the road in front of you will take you someplace magical? I would be honored to help you cross the bridge from where you are now to where you want to be with a Life Coaching session or series of sessions. During each hour-long session I will give you tools and share new ways of looking at things so you will have the confidence to keep going. Family Constellations is another great way to reveal and release what is holding you back from the happy, healthy, and prosperous life you were meant to live. Please join me for an upcoming group session or send me an email to schedule a private session in person, by phone, or via Skype. Until next time, do your best not to get too preoccupied with the future. Just keep focusing on the road ahead of you and trust that it is indeed taking you someplace magical!
