No Such Thing as a Free Lunch

You may have heard someone say, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.” If you google it, you will learn the origin of this once common saying. Whatever its origin, I happen to disagree. A free lunch is exactly what I received last weekend and I was extremely grateful!

On Saturday, I had an early flight from Houston to Fort Lauderdale with a layover in Dallas and not much time for a decent meal. As we prepared for landing, I began to ponder what my body was craving for a late lunch. That’s when I remembered that my favorite Mexican restaurant in Fort Lauderdale was not far from the airport. I call it “The Magical Burrito Place” because magical things seem to happen to me whenever I’m there. Long-time readers of my blogs and emails may recall a few of those stories. Not only do miracles happen there, but their food is delicious. This vegetarian appreciates that they will make anything on their menu with tofu instead of meat. I also find the people who work there to be exceptionally friendly and fun. To me, that’s just as important as the food.

There was one woman in particular who I enjoyed joking with whenever I visited, which was at least once or twice per week. It didn’t take her long to memorize the two things I consistently ordered. Once I told her whether I wanted a burrito or a salad she’d recite my preferences as she punched them into the cash register without me saying another word. We never had deep conversations, but I always enjoyed her positive attitude and our happy exchanges. I think she did too.

Well, a few months before I moved to Houston that woman transferred to another location. I hadn’t seen her in over a year. Imagine my delight to walk into the restaurant and see her smiling face behind the counter! Sadly, I couldn’t remember her name until after I left. That’s okay. She didn’t remember my salad preferences either, not that I would expect her to, of course. However, the connection and the joy we shared was still very much present. We chatted a bit before she took my order. I was so touched when she told me that my lunch was “on her.” Just one more reason that restaurant will always be the Magical Burrito Place.

That act of kindness and generosity set the tone for a great weekend in Naples and a happy return to Fort Lauderdale this week. My thanks to everyone at Unity of Naples for the warm welcome and extra blessings to all those who attended the afternoon Family Constellations workshop. You all were fantastic! We had more miracles at Bridges Spiritual Centers this Saturday, and our group had another delicious lunch at the Magical Burrito Place.

Would you like to experience more magic, miracles, and perhaps more burritos in your life? Please join me for an upcoming Family Constellations workshop or schedule a private session. Private sessions can be done in person, by phone, or via the internet. It is an indescribable experience of love, connection, and deep healing. You will be amazed to discover the source of the unconscious blocks that are keeping you from the happy life you were meant to live. Better yet, once you discover them, we can release them! Please look around my website to learn more about this miraculous work and to see the calendar of upcoming events. You can also send me an email for more information and to schedule a session.

Until next time, I encourage you to be open to receive a miracle, and maybe even a free lunch now and then.

Each day a thousand treasures come to me with every passing moment. I am blessed with gifts throughout the day, in value far beyond all things of which I can conceive. A brother smiles upon another, and my heart is gladdened. Someone speaks a word of gratitude or mercy, and my mind receives this gift and takes it as its own.

A Course in Miracles ~ Lesson 355

Ride the Wave

Last Sunday, I was starting to get a bit overwhelmed by the many details and tasks calling for my attention. Somehow the month of January got very busy. I’m not complaining. One of my greatest joys is sharing the miraculous process known as Family Constellations, and this month I have the opportunity to share it three weekends in a row. However, in addition to marketing these workshops and coordinating logistics and travel plans, I have had quite a few time-sensitive responsibilities to take care of as President of the Big Sky Retreat. It was all swirling in my head when I woke up that morning and I wasn’t sure what to do first.

Thank goodness I remembered to ask Spirit for guidance. The answer I received was so simple. Stop swirling and just focus on what absolutely needs doing in this moment. There was no need to think about what to pack for my upcoming trip to Florida. I could do that later in the week. I didn’t have to think about what I would say in the introduction to my workshop happening later that afternoon at Unity of Houston, or how to fine-tune the exercise I planned to close that workshop. I could ponder both of those things on my lunch break. The only thing I had to think about in that moment was the best way to describe Family Constellations during the announcements at the 9AM and 11AM services to encourage people to experience the magic for themselves. What a relief to remember I didn’t have to think about everything all at once!

Are you feeling stressed about the New Year’s resolutions you made? Did you start a lot of new activities this year? Do you have a ridiculously long list of things you’d like to accomplish by the end of the month? The week? The day? Stop! Don’t think about them all at once. It will feel like a tidal wave coming at you! Just break it down. What is the next thing that is calling for your attention? Take care of only that. There will be time later to focus on the next thing. Here’s the best part. Once you give yourself permission to relax and stop trying to figure it all out at once, you will be in a much more tranquil state of mind to receive guidance on how to proceed.

When I stopped thinking about the whole day and focused only on the invitation, the words came to me easily. I had fun inviting the congregation to join me for an afternoon of miracles. Something I said must have resonated with them because many more people than I expected attended the workshop. I’d like to extend my gratitude to all of you reading this who shared your time and loving hearts in the Pyramid at Unity of Houston last Sunday. I know we created a tidal wave of healing energy together.

If you would like to surf this tidal wave of healing energy to release unhealthy patterns in your life, please join me for an upcoming Family Constellations workshop or schedule a private session. Thanks to the miracle of technology, private sessions can be done from anywhere in the world by telephone or computer. Please look around my website or send me an email for more information or to schedule a session. Check the calendar page on my website to see where I will be next.

Until then, don’t let the tidal wave of your “to do” list knock you over. Just grab your surfboard and ride the wave by doing only what’s needed next!

“A tranquil mind is not a little gift.” ~ A Course in Miracles – M-20.4

Listen to that Friend

I love the hopeful quote at the bottom of this page from A Course in Miracles. It was right around this time twelve years ago that my friend Gwyneth gifted me her copy of a book titled Disappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard. She had been telling me about this book for quite some time, but I already had a stack of books waiting to be read. Surely this one could wait a little while. When Gwyneth found out the author was scheduled to speak at my church at the end of January, she gave me her audiobook and basically insisted that I listen to the CDs before the event. Gwyneth and I were classmates in massage school. We had spent a lot of time together and I trusted her. She was absolutely convinced that I needed to listen to those CDs and go to that event. I did. She was right.

I had no idea the book was about A Course in Miracles, or that it would change the way I experienced life. At the time, I was a massage therapist living in Miami. In order to finish the audiobook before the event, I had to listen to the CDs in my car between massage clients. What I heard blew me away. Through frank and funny conversations between Gary and his teachers, Arten and Pursah, the principles of the Course are explained in a linear and easy to understand way. This book answered more questions than anything else I had studied thus far. Not only did it make sense, but the thought system it presents is also absolutely consistent. The principles felt true deep in my heart. After Gary’s workshop at Unity on the Bay, I knew this was the path for me, so I ordered my first copy of A Course in Miracles from The Foundation for Inner Peace. And so the year began in joy and freedom.

A dozen years later, these teachings still make sense, are 100% consistent, and ring true in my heart. For me, 2018 was full of big changes that came with some challenges, but the Course has helped me remember that what is true is changeless. As we begin this new year, I invite you to make it different by making it all the same. No, that doesn’t mean have the same thing for dinner every night or wear the same clothes every day. I interpret that to mean do your best to choose peaceful and loving thoughts no matter what appears to be happening in your life or in the world. True, it’s not always easy, but it is possible. I can tell you from experience, with practice, it gets easier.

When I get frustrated or overwhelmed, I ask myself questions like, “What would love do or say in this situation?” Sometimes the answer is “keep your mouth shut and don’t say anything!” Sometimes I ask for help to see things differently. That’s when ideas pop into my head that I don’t think would have if I hadn’t asked that question. Whatever the question, by asking love to guide the way fear naturally falls away. They are opposites.

If you would like to make this year different by making it all the same, maybe A Course in Miracles or one of Gary Renard’s books is calling you. I would be honored to help you begin this year in joy and freedom with a series of Life Coaching sessions or a private Family Constellations session. Both can be done from anywhere in the world by telephone or computer. Please look around my website or send me an email for more information or to schedule a session.

Until next time, if a friend you trust keeps telling you about a book or class, or it keeps coming up in different conversations with different people, you might want to pay attention. It might just change your life in miraculous ways.

So will the year begin in joy and freedom. There is much to do, and we have been long delayed. Accept the holy instant as this year is born, and take your place, so long left unfulfilled, in the Great Awakening. Make this year different by making it all the same. And let all your relationships be made holy for you. A Course in Miracles – T-15:XI.11

It Works!

I have been studying A Course in Miracles since 2007 and all I can say is “it works!” Things that once might have upset me greatly don’t seem to bother me as much today. For example, something happened on New Year’s Eve Day that, in the past, might have ruined my day. I was pulling out of my garage as I have done hundreds of times since moving to Houston when suddenly I heard a very loud scraping noise. I looked in the direction of the noise to see a piece of metal siding trying to accompany me down the driveway. Apparently, I started turning the steering wheel too soon and the back fender of my car got up close and personal with the side of the garage. Oops!

I backed up to release the metal siding and then got out of my car to inspect the damage. It was pretty bad. My fender was quite scraped up, but all I could do was laugh. How silly of me to hit the garage. I wasn’t even in a hurry. Since I haven’t mastered time travel yet, that left me with two options. I could get upset, berate myself for being so careless, and then get the car repaired, or I could skip the first two steps and just get the car repaired. Seems like a simple choice, doesn’t it? Simple yes, but not always easy.

This was a minor upset, but the Course says anything that tries to take away my peace, large or small, is worth applying its unique forgiveness process. I’m happy to report this process has helped me navigate some of life’s toughest situations like the heartache of ending a long-term relationship and the death of my mother.

A Course in Miracles has also made me very aware of the subtle miracles of life. One of those happened later that same day. I set my iPhone to shuffle songs from my dance music playlist as I drove to the Burning Bowl Ceremony at Unity of Houston. Dance music always elevates my spirits and I wanted to be in a good space when I wrote down what I wanted to release and not carry into 2019. Of the 50 songs in that playlist, the one that was playing as I pulled into the parking lot was the remix of “Xanadu” from the 80s movie of the same name. During the service, Julia Laskowski and Michael Gott sang Olivia Newton-John’s song “Magic” from the same movie! When things like that happen I think of it as Spirit’s way of winking at me and telling me I’m on the right track.

Would you like to experience more miracles and feel more peace in 2019? Maybe A Course in Miracles is calling you. It’s not for everyone, but it might be for you. Join me every Monday evening at 7:30 in Grace Hall at Unity of Houston for a fun and thought-provoking conversation about the Course. For a more personal introduction to the Course, you can sign up for a series of Life Coaching sessions to help you get through those challenging times in life. All of my sessions are based on the principles found in A Course in Miracles and other New Thought Teachings. Family Constellations is another miraculous process that can help you let go of things you might not have known you were carrying for your ancestors. Thanks to technology, all of these sessions can be done by telephone or computer from anywhere in the world. Please look around my website or send me an email for more information and to schedule a session.

Until next time, may you find peace and maybe even a little laughter during those bumps and scrapes of life.

Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny, mad idea, at which the Son of God remembered not to laugh. In his forgetting did the thought become a serious idea, and possible of both accomplishment and real effects. Together, we can laugh them both away, and understand that time cannot intrude upon eternity.
