Angels, Auras, and Ice Cream

Last weekend I was in Austin, Texas attending an event called “Angels & Auras” facilitated by two of my favorite Hay House authors, Radleigh Valentine and Dougall Fraser. What a dynamic duo! It was so interesting to see how many places Radleigh’s teachings on angels aligned with Dougall’s work with color. All through the event, they bounced ideas and jokes back and forth like they were playing a friendly game of badminton. When one of them led a meditation or a process, the other would silently hold space until it was complete. It was inspiring to watch these two friends speak from their hearts without any sense of competition or need to be right.

I loved when Radleigh invited us to let go of the concept of “right” and “wrong” during his answer to the very first question. A woman asked him how the various colors became associated with each archangel. He began with a very simple answer. Those colors were taught to him by his teacher and he liked them. He then told a story about sharing the stage with Diana Cooper, whom he described as the “Grande Dame of Angels” in Europe. Diana has been writing and teaching about angels for a long time. Not only does she associate different colors with the archangels, but she also talks about each one of them having a twin flame. Despite these basic differences, Radleigh pointed out that there was no need to make one right and one wrong. We each get to choose what feels right for us. If you feel connected to what he teaches, use that system. If you resonate more with Diana’s teachings, use those. Whichever system you use, the important thing is to remember to ask for angelic help.

In his book, Your Life in Color, Dougall uses an approach to color that veers away from the traditional seven chakra rainbow colors. That doesn’t mean one is wrong. It simply means color speaks to Dougall differently. If his approach resonates with you and you find it helpful, why not use it? There are over 7 billion people on this planet, each one looking for ways to experience more peace, love, and joy. Since each one of us is different, we need lots of different ways.

That’s why Baskin & Robbins has 31 flavors. Imagine visiting an ice cream parlor that only serves vanilla. That might be okay for some, but that wouldn’t work for everyone. Thank goodness for those little sample spoons that allow us to taste a variety of flavors before choosing one. I think spiritual practices are like that. The only way to know what works for you is to try some. At some point, you pick one you like and savor a whole scoop (or two!) My favorite flavor of spirituality is A Course in Miracles. Its gentle, consistent, authoritative, yet completely loving voice has given me more comfort than any other teaching.

On Saturday, a miraculous thing happened. Radleigh opened the “Angels and Auras” event by leading a guided meditation inviting 4 powerful archangels to stand in each of the 4 corners of the room. As he invoked the names and qualities of each one, I felt those familiar tingles all through my body. I have learned that those tingles happen when Spirit is trying to get my attention to let me know the energy of unconditional love is present. The tingles usually only last a few seconds, but that night they continued for the entire 15-minute meditation. It felt amazing! In fact, I’m getting those tingles again as I type these words. Thank you, Radleigh. Thank you, angels!

Earlier that morning, I completed another pass through the 365 Workbook Lessons in A Course in Miracles. I’m not sure how many times I’ve done the lessons since I started studying the Course, but each time I see something new. This time was no different, and the timing was perfect. The following morning I read the beautiful epilogue that closes the Workbook. Imagine the smile on my face when I read these last 3 sentences:

You do not walk alone. God’s angels hover near and all about. His Love surrounds you, and of this be sure; that I will never leave you comfortless.

I know these words are true for you too. If you are having trouble connecting with your angels or feeling the presence of unconditional love, I highly recommend the work of Radleigh Valentine and Dougall Fraser. Click their names to visit their websites where you can listen to free guided meditations and purchase their books and card decks. A Timely Reminder

I have written before about a section in Chapter 18 of A Course in Miracles titled “I Need Do Nothing.” It feels like I need to be reminded of this so perhaps someone out there does too. With all of the traveling I have been doing lately and my responsibilities on the board of the Big Sky Retreat, keeping up with the many tasks to keep my business running has been quite daunting. There are always emails to answer, phone calls to make, leads to follow up on, and flyers to create. And there’s social media which can be a full-time job in itself. On and on it goes, and with it my inner peace! At some point I have to surrender, wave the white flag, and remember “I need do nothing.” When I remember this, peace returns.

Please don’t confuse “I need do nothing” with “Don’t do anything.” They are not the same. I’m not suggesting you sit on your couch and watch Netflix all day. While we are having the experience of being in a body in this world, we have to do things like earn money, buy food, pay bills, exercise, answer emails, clean the house and do laundry. The difference in perception is simply the realization that we don’t need to do anything to be loved. We are loved beyond measure by the Source of all Creation. Some call that God. Others call that the Universe, Divine Presence, or Great Spirit. It doesn’t matter what we call it, it’s Love. And furthermore, so are you! That’s why you don’t need to do anything to be loved. You are Love.

The simple statement “I need do nothing” reminds me of something I read many years ago. The article pointed out that it doesn’t matter how many people are at the beach; the sun shines down equally on all of them. It doesn’t shine more on busy people than others. The sun doesn’t care if you do one thing or ten things today. If you are at the beach, and the sun is out, you will receive its light. Nobody has to earn sunshine, just like nobody has to earn God’s love. It’s just there for the basking. From that place of peace, I can choose loving thoughts and stop judging myself. Then I can decide to be still for a while and let myself rest, or I can choose to take action. I can do what feels right in that moment without all the guilt, struggle, and striving to “get it all done.” It is tremendously freeing once I let go of those unrealistic and mostly self-imposed expectations.

If you are having trouble feeling worthy of that sunshine, or the sun seems to go behind the clouds every time you go to the beach, or you don’t even have time to think about going to the beach, maybe now is the time to do some inner exploration. I love sharing the tools and techniques that have worked for me in my Life Coaching programs based on the strong principles found in A Course in Miracles. We will discover together where those clouds might be coming from or why there doesn’t seem to be time in your schedule for rest. Look for an exciting offer on all of my Life Coaching packages in my email on Black Friday.

Another great cloud buster is Family Constellations. You will be amazed by what happens in these workshops and one-on-one sessions. Things you never would have imagined being related to your current struggles are revealed and healed. Please look around my website or send me an email for more information about both of these opportunities.

Until next time, whenever you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and remember this one simple sentence. “I need do nothing.”

When peace comes at last to those who wrestle with temptation and fight against the giving in to sin; when the light comes at last into the mind given to contemplation; or when the goal is finally achieved by anyone, it always comes with just one happy realization; “I need do nothing.”

A Dress Rehearsal for Life

Have you ever wished that life would give you a second chance to make different choices? That was a rhetorical question. Of course, we all have! It actually happened to me last week when I boarded an airplane in Houston for the first leg of my trip to Virginia. We sat at the gate for about twenty minutes before the pilot announced that our aircraft had a mechanical issue. If the maintenance team could locate a necessary part we would be on our way within the hour. Apparently they were not able to find this part because about fifteen minutes later the pilot announced we would be getting off that plane and boarding another one.

Even though this delay would rob some time from a scheduled lunch date with a dear friend in Atlanta, I found myself remarkably calm, and perhaps even grateful. How is this possible you might ask? Well, after the announcement I asked for a miracle, which is merely a shift in perception. I asked to see this situation differently. Suddenly, I began to realize quite a few benefits to this unexpected delay.

One was quite obvious. I arrived at the airport later than intended so I had just enough time to run to the other terminal to get juice and a toasted bagel before boarding the airplane. Now I had time to visit the restroom! This extra time also allowed me to schedule a much-needed haircut when I returned.

Since there are no assigned seats on Southwest Airlines, I wondered if my fellow passengers would select the same seats on the second plane. Although we are creatures of habit, it seemed unlikely. I knew I would choose a different seat. The man in front of me on the first plane had an extremely loud voice which he used to have an extremely loud conversation with the couple next to him. They carried on this extremely loud conversation for the entire thirty-plus minutes at the gate. Sadly, playing music in my earbuds did not help. When I saw this man on the second plane, I smiled and kept on walking. Also on that first plane, a man with strong cologne and not a lot of appreciation for my personal space chose the seat next to me. Because I selected a seat further back, thankfully, he also chose a different seat. This “do-over” was working out well!

I noticed others do it differently also. The man with three carry-on items was able to consolidate two of them in advance so he didn’t lose his place in line a second time. The woman in front of me with an oversized bag containing a large, protruding mailing tube was able to readjust her belongings to prevent any further injuries as she passed down the center aisle a second time. I believe she hit just about everyone in her path the first time. Speaking of oversized bags, I was more peaceful this time because I already knew my new backpack would fit under the seat in front of me. As I passed the flight attendant, I joked that I had the strange feeling we had done this before. She was right on when she replied, “The first time was just a dress rehearsal!”

Unfortunately, we are rarely given a dress rehearsal for life, but we are always given the opportunity to see things differently. All you have to do is stop, ask, and be open to receive an answer. It is not always easy, but it is that simple. If you could use some assistance, please consider giving yourself the gift of a private Family Constellations session or a series of Life Coaching sessions. Both create miracles. For more information or to schedule a session, please look around my website or send me an email. Sessions can be done in person, by telephone, or computer.

Until next time, may you remember that even without a dress rehearsal, it’s never too late to make a different choice.

Trials are but lessons that you failed to learn presented once again, so where you made a faulty choice before you now can make a better one, and thus escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you.
