Counting Blessings Before They Are Hatched

I don’t know about you, but I am feeling very optimistic about 2024. Just last week, I received another hopeful sign. While walking from my car to my front door, I noticed a large round object next to the sidewalk. At first, I thought someone had left a rock in the grass, but when I got closer, I could see a geometric pattern on the surface. It was a little turtle that had completely retreated into its shell.

When I stood still for a moment, her head poked out and she continued with her task at hand. I couldn’t believe my luck. This is the second time this year I’ve been in the right place at the right time to witness a mama turtle laying eggs!

You may recall I wrote about this in April on the 12th anniversary of my mother’s passing. (Click here if you missed that story.) Over the years, I’ve had several connections involving my mother and turtles, so I took this as her sign that she was with me. That day in April was the start of what became a very challenging spring, and it gave me great comfort to feel my mother’s presence. What are the odds that mama turtle would lay her eggs on that day at the exact moment I looked out my window?

And now, as we approach the end of 2023, it happened again! I was returning home from my morning walk right when another mama turtle chose to lay her eggs mere steps from my front door. You may call it a coincidence, but I choose to see it as another message from my mom.

It seems significant that this happened on the Tuesday after Christmas. Had this been any other Tuesday, the landscaping crew would have been on the property wielding noisy lawnmowers and leaf blowers. That certainly would have scared the turtle away, but since Monday was a holiday, they adjusted their schedule and came on Wednesday instead.

It’s also odd that no one else was around during this time. On days when school is out, kids are usually running or riding bikes along that sidewalk. On this day, it was eerily quiet. As far as I know, I’m the only one who passed by. It’s as if the stars aligned perfectly so that she would not be disturbed and I would encounter her.

After taking a few photos and a short video of this divinely timed miracle, I went inside to take a shower. When I returned, the mama turtle had finished laying her eggs and was now covering them up with her back flippers. How she managed to do this without looking, I’ll never know. Her work was impeccable!

When I returned from lunch about an hour later, she was gone leaving no evidence that she had ever been there. Had I not seen her earlier, I would not have noticed the small patch of mud where she laid her eggs. It was packed perfectly flush with the rest of the terrain. The next day, I felt inspired to place a few small rose quartz crystals around the perimeter of her nest and say a prayer of protection over those little eggs.

Neither the timing nor the metaphor of this experience was lost on me. Thanks for this hopeful message, Mom! You’re not supposed to count chickens before they hatch, but I’m counting these blessings before the turtle eggs hatch. I believe our dreams and desires have been incubating like those turtle eggs, and I affirm that many blessings will hatch in 2024 for all of us!

Ospreys and Eagles and Owls! Oh My!

There were many unexpected blessings during my recent trip to Florida, but one truly stands out. This was my first time visiting my dear friend Carrie Stiers at her home in Tampa, and my first time meeting her parents who live about 45 minutes away on an island called Honeymoon Island. I had heard a lot about Carrie’s mother and Zoomed with her once, so I felt like we were already friends. However, I hadn’t heard as much about her father, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I met him. I soon discovered her dad is an open-hearted, peace-loving man with whom I share many common interests, including a love of nature and wildlife.

Not long after I arrived, Carrie and I drove over the causeway to meet her parents and walk on the beach before going to dinner. (Don’t worry. We were vaccinated and took precautions.) During that walk, her dad and I talked about many things: his time in Africa in the Peace Corps, animals, spirituality, and family. I loved hearing about the herd of elephants that lived near their village in Africa and he was happy to learn about the magnificent Disneynature film released last year simply titled Elephant. We’d known each other less than an hour, but it struck me how quickly I felt comfortable and completely accepted by this man. Later, Carrie’s husband joined us for dinner and the five of us had a wonderful time. The joy of watching the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico was a close second to the joy of laughing and sharing a meal with this loving family.

Having discovered our shared love of nature, Carrie’s father suggested the five of us take a walk later in the week along a birdwatching trail he frequented in Honeymoon Island State Park. He recommended we go right before dark when there’s a good chance to see owls! That sounded too cool to miss so we made plans to have an early dinner at their home followed by a twilight nature walk. At dinner, Carrie’s mom shared a hilarious story involving a homemade apple pie, so she offered to bake one for the occasion. I looked forward to that walk and that pie all week.

Well, both the pie and the walk surpassed my expectations. After just a few minutes on the trail, we spotted an owl sitting high in a tree. We took turns getting a closer look with a pair of binoculars before continuing our journey. Along the way we saw several osprey and osprey nests, a gopher tortoise munching on grass, a woodpecker banging on a palm tree, and an armadillo searching for food in the brush. The grand finale happened when a bald eagle flew directly over us, eventually landing in the tree at the end of the trail. She was protecting her young from a flock of vultures flying suspiciously close to the tree where her nest was built. It was a breathtaking moment.

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, while making our way back to the parking lot, we spotted another owl sitting on a branch just a few yards away. This owl was such a showoff! For several minutes she demonstrated her uncanny ability to rotate her head over 180 degrees in each direction as she searched for dinner. She must have spotted something because suddenly she spread her wings and flew off silently into the woods.

Mother Nature put on quite a show for us that night. Carrie’s dad commented that he normally sees some of those animals and birds, but never all of them on the same walk. The wildlife sightings set against the kaleidoscope of changing colors and clouds at sunset made for an absolutely magical evening. What made it even more magical was seeing how much Carrie’s dad enjoyed sharing the experience with people who appreciate Mother Nature’s wonder as much as he does. The delicious post-walk apple pie that Carrie’s mother baked made the evening even sweeter.

We only saw Carrie’s parents on those two occasions, but once or twice during our visits, her dad briefly put his hand on my shoulder as a proud father might do with a grown son. Having lost my dad at age 7, I never had the experience of physical support and acceptance from a father as an adult. It caught me by surprise how deeply healing it was to have this connection with Carrie’s father. It went beyond words. It was a visceral sensation like some forgotten part of me was awakened and supported.

I truly believe if my father had lived longer, we would have developed a mutual respect and admiration for each other like the connection I had with Carrie’s dad. In fact, even though my father is no longer in physical form, I believe we do have that connection. Perhaps he communicated this truth through Carrie’s dad. It was an unexpected gift I will always treasure. Thank you, Chuck Stiers, for all the kindness you shared and for giving me permission to share this story. I look forward to more time with this remarkable man in the future.

If you’ve been missing a connection with one or both of your biological parents for whatever reason, here’s something I recommend to my Family Constellations clients. If it feels right for you, think of them before you go to bed at night. Perhaps look at a photograph if you have one. Then speak the words below to the highest version of them whether they are still here in physical form or have made their transition to the non-physical:

“Dear mom or dad. Please come to me when I’m sleeping when I’m easier to reach and give me the love you would have if you could have when I was young.”

Try it for a week or a month and see how you feel.  If I can assist you with a private Family Constellations session or a series of Life Coaching sessions, please reply to this email or look around my website for more information. I would be honored to help you reconnect with that forgotten part of you that longs to be seen and supported. You might also be interested in the special Family Constellations online workshops coming up in May and June exploring the Role of Mom and the Role of Dad. Visit the Upcoming Workshops page on my newly refurbished website for details and to purchase your ticket!

Until next time, may you experience unexpected blessings wherever you travel.

As you perceive the holy companions who travel with you, you will realize that there is no journey, but only an awakening.

A Course in Miracles ~ T-

An August Adventure

I’m having a wonderful time on my road trip so far. Hiking outside among the tall trees in the rolling hills with the occasional babbling brook has been incredibly restorative. It’s also done my heart and soul good to see friends that I haven’t seen in a very long time. I’m so grateful that when we get together we always pick up right where we left off.

Also, reconnecting with my godchildren after years of not seeing them has been a blessing. They have grown so much since I’ve seen them last. Today, I taught them my ritual of tossing tiny rose quartz crystals in flower beds, streams, and lakes to add the energy of unconditional love and compassion. Later, when I went to their home for dinner, my godson, Timothy, had not only made a necklace for me out of one of the stones I gave him earlier, he gifted me a large piece of rose quartz from his personal rock collection. Those sweet gifts from a 12-year old boy touched me deeply.

If you’d like to virtually join me on this August Adventure, I’ve been doing my best to share photos and videos on my John Harold Moore Facebook and Instagram pages. I also wanted to let my fellow A Course in Miracles students know I plan to continue our Friday Night Happy Hour (and a Half) Study Group on Fridays at 5 PM Central / 6 PM Eastern from wherever I am on the road. As long as I have internet, I will be on Zoom. For those who attend our Monday Night group, my miraculous friend Marina will be filling in for me until I get back to Houston. Please note that I added a password for each group this month so the links have changed. Both links are on the Miracles page on my website. I hope you’ll join Marina on Mondays and me on Fridays to share miracles!

Until next time, may you give yourself the gift of spending time outdoors and allow yourself to receive gifts from those who wish to give them!

The world you see but shows you how much joy you have allowed yourself to see in you, and to accept as yours. And, if this is its meaning, then the power to give it joy must lie within you.

A Course in Miracles ~ T-21.In.2

I learned a long time ago that we all have the power to bless. That word may have special meaning or be off-putting to some, but according to the internet, bless can simply mean “express or feel gratitude to; thank.” That’s why I take time to bless every meal before I eat it. Yes, I’m that weird guy who closes his eyes and holds his hands over his rice bowl at Chipotle for about ten seconds before my first bite. This has become a habit no matter where I am. It’s not a religious thing. It’s simply a way to show respect and gratitude for what’s before me. Having an attitude of gratitude is a sure way to attract more good into my life. It also gives me a moment to set the intention that this food will nourish me and keep me healthy before I wolf it down! I’m working on slowing down and being more mindful while I eat.

With the extensive traveling I’ve done over the past few years, I’ve been on more than a few airplanes. It’s become another habit to place my hand on the side of the aircraft before I step in to silently bless the plane and all those traveling and working inside it. I imagine light and protection around the plane and all of its passengers and crew, as well as all those who have ever been on that plane in the past and all those who will be on it in the future. I also imagine that there are angels assigned to each wing to carry us safely to our destination. It feels especially significant to place my hand on the heart logo painted on Southwest airplanes. Does it do anything? I don’t know, but it’s fun! It also makes me smile to know I am using the power of my heart and mind to think positive thoughts and bless people whom I will never meet. What would happen if everyone reading this started secretly blessing airplanes? Will it make a difference? Like everything, if you believe it to be true then it will be true for you!

I love that this year the staff, musicians, and speakers of the Big Sky Retreat gathered in front of the stage before the retreat began to bless the main room, our attendees and everything that would occur over the next five days. It felt very empowering to speak words of gratitude in advance for the healings, transformations, love, and joy that would happen there. I trust on some level everyone felt it. It sure felt good to me and once again we heard that it was the best Big Sky Retreat yet!

If any of these practices speak to you, I encourage you to adopt them or adapt them to fit your own belief system. Take a moment to bless your food or your airplane. Bless your car for getting you safely from Point A to Point B. Bless your new home before you move in. Bless your old home after you move out. Thank it for providing shelter and a safe space for all those happy memories. Bless whatever you feel inspired to bless. Will it make a difference? If you believe it will…it will!

It would be a blessing for me to assist you in experiencing more miracles and an attitude of gratitude no matter what is going on in your life. Please visit my website or send me an email to learn more about Life Coaching and Family Constellations. Both have been blessings in my life and I trust they will be in yours too.

Until next time, keep those blessings flowing…

Let it Snow! Let it Go! Let it Snow!

I’m at Serenity Farm in Virginia this week facilitating group and private Family Constellations sessions. Last week when I saw the snowflake icon on the weather forecast for Monday in Richmond, VA I was not jumping for joy. I grew up in Upstate New York and graduated from Syracuse University, so I’m no stranger to snow. However, I have lived in Florida for the last 25 years and during that time I have not missed the snow or cold winters one tiny bit. Not only was I not looking forward to the colder temperatures this week, but I was concerned that the snow would make it difficult or impossible for clients to get to Serenity Farm from the city.

When I woke up on Monday morning there was no snow on the ground. It seemed the forecasters had overestimated the chance for snow. Then around 11 AM, little white flakes started drifting down outside the windows during my first private session. At first it was just a few flakes, but they were joined by lots of flakey friends quickly. It started coming down so fast that by the time we were done with the session the grass was no longer visible and all the trees and bushes had a light dusting of snow on them. Luckily, the snow was not sticking on the roads yet so my client was able to get home without any trouble.

I have to admit the snow was beautiful. There is something very peaceful about snowflakes falling all around you, especially when you are out in nature. Serenity Farm is nestled among the woods on all sides with beautiful trees, large fields, a garden, and a pond. It definitely lives up to its name, and with the snow falling it felt even more serene. Over the weekend we had very powerful constellations where unexpected family dynamics were revealed leading to deep healing for all of the participants. The snow felt like Mother Nature’s way of clearing the energy of the land and blessing it with peace and tranquility.

I don’t think it was an accident that my hostess at Serenity Farm had invited Jane, the owner of Alchemists Books and Gifts for the Spirit in Richmond and her guest, William Brisson, who does space clearing and energy healing for a visit that afternoon. We were so happy that the snow did not prevent them from getting here. In fact, it sure felt like it made their first visit to Serenity Farm even more magical. The four of us had a wonderful conversation about the work we do and how we found the spiritual path as millions of snowflakes danced outside the windows. It was a great reminder for me that it’s all about perspective. The very thing that I was dreading turned out to be a magical gift!

Is there an event or situation in your life that you are dreading? I would be honored to help you see it from a different perspective with a Life Coaching session or series of sessions, or a private Family Constellations session. Both are excellent tools to help you change the way you look at things. As Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Please look around my website for more information about these opportunities or send me an email to schedule an appointment in person, by phone, or via Skype.

Until next time, I invite you to be open to the possibility that the very thing you are dreading might be a blessing in disguise.

Blessings are Falling!

I was in Virginia last week doing the work I love, Family Constellations. Although I have been to Serenity Farm at least four or five times now, this trip was intentionally different from previous visits. I scheduled only one workshop and fewer private sessions so there would be more time to enjoy the wonderful healing energy of the land and the amazing community of healers that gather there. There were delicious meals, deep conversations, and lots of laughter. We also shared our healing gifts with each other in the many different modalities we each practice. Our time together felt like a much needed soul battery recharge for us all.

One of the highlights for me was walking the land at Serenity Farm my first day there. The weather was much warmer than I expected so my hostess invited me on a little tour of the property to see what was new since my last visit. She was excited to show me the clearing in the woods in front of the main house where she envisions an outdoor chapel. The air was crisp and the smell of fallen leaves brought me back to the autumns of my childhood in Upstate New York. Our footsteps crunching in the ankle deep carpet of leaves sounded like we were marching on bags of potato chips. All of the sights, sounds, and smells added to the rich experience.

When we reached the clearing I immediately felt that familiar tingling sensation in my body that lets me know Spirit wants me to pay attention. Of course, I had my trademark rose quartz crystals with me so we sprinkled some all around the clearing. Afterwards, my hostess suggested we lay down in the leaves in the middle of the clearing and just look up at the sky. What a nurturing experience that was! I felt completely connected to and cradled by Mother Earth in the soft, crunchy leaves as I gazed at the beautiful blue sky above. Slight wisps of clouds floated by the opening in the trees. Some looked like angels. Others resembled dragons. A few just looked like clouds, but one looked to us like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Every once in a while a gust of wind sent another batch of brown autumn leaves wafting down around us like blessings from Heaven. My hostess and I giggled with delight like children. It was truly magical.

What a beautiful reminder that some of the best moments in life are not crammed full of activities. Simply laying on the ground and connecting with nature can be a profound experience that releases the joy that lives in our hearts. I’m so glad I gave myself the gift of spaciousness in my schedule last week so I could enjoy all that Serenity Farm has to offer. Infinite gratitude to my hostess, our friends, and all of the new friends I made last week. It wouldn’t have been the same without each and every one of you. I returned home feeling refreshed, renewed, and recharged.

Are you feeling disconnected and in need of a soul battery recharge? I would be honored to help you create more spaciousness and joy in your life by sharing some of the tools and techniques that have worked for me. I offer four, six, and eight week Life Coaching packages based on the strong principles of A Course in Miracles, Family Constellations, and other New Thought teachings. Now is a great time to purchase a session or sessions as a gift for yourself or someone you love. There will be a slight increase in Life Coaching prices after the first of the year, so take advantage of the lower rates now. Give the gift that will keep on giving…Peace! Gift certificates are available for all services on my website.

Until next time, I invite you to stop and take a moment to connect with nature in whatever way you can. Watch the clouds. Look at the moon. Gaze at the stars. Then let your heart open to the blessings that will surely float to you like autumn leaves.

Roadblock Blessings

It sure seems like I have been encountering a lot of roadblocks lately, both literally and figuratively. The City of Fort Lauderdale is turning the intersection directly adjacent to my apartment building into a traffic circle. Workers have been there for weeks creating this new traffic pattern. Many days the main road in front of my building has been completely closed to traffic, forcing me to find alternative routes to my destinations. This situation has made me aware of how often I’m on “automatic pilot” while driving home. I forget about the road closure until I see those beautiful bright orange signs and the striped blockades in my path. When I’m tired or pressed for time, this feels like anything but a blessing.

However, something good has come of these recurring obstacles. During my recent travels, a close friend stayed in my apartment for a few weeks while she looked for her own living space. When she moved into her new place she left a few boxes in my apartment. A few days after my return we decided to meet for lunch and then reconvene at my apartment so she could get her things. That day the main road to my apartment was closed again so I took a long detour home. When I finally got there my friend had been waiting for me for quite a while. I asked how she got there so quickly and she told me about a shortcut she had discovered while I was away. I can not believe I have lived in this building for three years without knowing about this back road that avoids two busy intersections. Had the main road not been closed I may never have known it existed!

In addition to physical roadblocks, there have been numerous obstacles in my business life lately. For weeks I have been trying to set up a new email account with my current domain name I know that seems like a rather easy task, but my busy travel schedule this fall and new responsibilities with the Big Sky Retreat did not leave me much time to devote to this project. When I finally made time this week, I could not believe how complicated it was to get the company that hosts my domain name to communicate with the company that hosts my website. I thought I was making a wise investment by purchasing an email service with the company that hosts my domain name. I have used them since 2010 with no issues. However, the instructions to get the two websites communicating with each other had me completely baffled. I consider myself to be reasonably adept at figuring things out on the computer, but this was beyond my capabilities and my patience level.

Rather than spend more time on this project and risk further frustration, I decided to revisit the email account options with the company that hosts my website. This time I found them to be much simpler than the first time I looked. Setting up an account here was infinitely easier than the steps required with the other company, so I decided to cancel my original subscription. To my surprise and delight, the first company gave me a full refund since I hadn’t actually used the service yet. The email service with the other company is included in my current plan, so this roadblock ended up saving me time and money in the long run.

I hit yet another unexpected challenge the other night while attempting to move the recordings of my first online class from the cloud to YouTube. I did not know that when you choose the “private” setting for videos on YouTube that only people that have YouTube accounts can view them. I want the videos to be private since participants share personal stories in these classes, but not everyone has a YouTube account. There is another setting called “unlisted” that prevents videos from showing up in searches, but once people have the link they can post and share the videos at will. Neither of these options felt adequate for my needs.

This prompted me to investigate the privacy features of another video sharing site called Vimeo. I discovered that Vimeo gives users the option to require a password to watch certain videos. This I could provide to the participants very easily. Once again, what initially was a very frustrating obstacle ended up redirecting me to a better solution.

This week we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the U.S. Most Americans spend time reflecting on things they are grateful for like good health, friends, and family. This year I’m going to add roadblocks to my gratitude list. It may take a little time to find the blessing in them, but I believe all roadblocks will eventually direct us to something better.

Have you hit a roadblock recently? More than one like me? If so, maybe now is the time to invest in yourself and give yourself the gift of Life Coaching or Family Constellations. Both will give you the opportunity to see those roadblocks from a different perspective and how they might actually be blessings. I also offer gift certificates for all Coaching and Constellations sessions. This year you can give the gift of healing and transformation, gifts that truly keep on giving. Simply purchase a session or sessions on my website and then send an email to with the recipient’s contact information. Also, please note that pricing for Life Coaching sessions will go up slightly starting in 2018, so take advantage of the lower rates before the end of the year. It can be a gift you give yourself!

Until next time, be thankful for those roadblocks. They may just be the Universe saying, “I have a better way.”

Waves of Contentment

It was crunch time before my trip to Montana. I had about 3.2 million things on my “to do” list in addition to my regular activities and projects, all of which were churning in my mind during my morning beach walk that day. I was thinking about the emails I needed to answer, the phone calls I needed to make, the flyers for upcoming workshops I needed to create, and the events I needed to post on Facebook and Meetup. Oh, and somewhere in there I also needed to carve out some time to work on my book. My ego was screaming at me that I would never manifest the life of my dreams if I didn’t get all that stuff done! (by 2 pm!) And then something miraculous happened.

Suddenly, I felt like Spirit clicked the light switch of awareness on in my mind and I had an expanded sense of clarity. I heard that still small voice inside say, “John, you are already living the life of your dreams right here in this moment. Look around you at the scenery. What do you see? What do you do for a living? Where are you traveling to in a few days? There’s no life to get to in the future. It’s here now.” I took these words in as a wave of contentment washed over me. I felt more peaceful than I had in a long time. The urgency of my “to do” list vanished. I followed the advice of that voice and sat down on the sea wall to observe the scene around me. I watched waves take form and recede in the beautiful turquoise water. Colorful beach umbrellas dotted the white sandy beach. I heard the sound of the ocean breeze rustling the palm fronds above me as beams of sunlight found their way through to warm my skin. I thought, “It’s true. I am living the life of my dreams right now.”
I looked at the high rise being built right across the street from where I was sitting and imagined what it would be like to live there one day. Being near the ocean brings me so much joy. I could stare at those waves rolling in for hours. I know someday I will be able to do that from the balcony of my living space, but for now, I live about 3 miles away. My ego took this opportunity to tell me all the things that need to happen before I can enjoy that experience. However, Spirit gently reminded me that there was no need to wait until some day in the future when I own an oceanside condo. There I was enjoying the surf, sand, and sun right then!

My ego chimed in, “Ok. Enough of this! You had better get home and get busy if you want more clients and more speaking engagements.” It’s true. I would love to help more people remember their magnificence. But Spirit kindly reminded me that right now I have more Life Coaching clients than I’ve ever had before. I’m also doing private Family Constellations sessions via Skype with clients all over the world. That is something I hadn’t anticipated. “But what about all those spiritual centers that have expressed interest in bringing Family Constellations to their communities, John? You’re going to miss an opportunity if you don’t contact them all right away!” My ego was using scare tactics now, trying to make me feel bad that those trips hadn’t happened yet. Ever present and loving Spirit reminded me that I had four such trips coming up before the end of the year. All is happening in Divine Time.

Have you had similar conversations in your head? According to A Course in Miracles, the ego’s motto is, “Seek, but do not find.” As long as we are in seeking mode, we will never feel peaceful and content. That is exactly what the ego wants because its very existence depends on us feeling like there is something missing, or we are not good enough as we are. Where in your life are you still seeking? Could it be more true that you already have what you think you are missing? I invite you to take a moment to look at the scenery around you. Ask that still small voice that lives in you to reveal the many ways that your are blessed. Have you already achieved something you wanted, but haven’t taken the time to appreciate it? What has shown up in your life that is even better than what you were seeking? How many things can you write down that you are grateful for in this moment?
It’s so easy to stay focused on what we don’t have. I find myself falling into that trap too. That’s why I’m so grateful for that still small voice, the voice of Love that I call Spirit. It’s always reminding me that I am enough. I have everything I need. And I need do nothing to be loved. It would be my great honor to be the voice of Love in your life if peace and contentment still seem to be eluding you. Please look around my website for more information about Life Coaching based on the strong principles of A Course in Miracles and the amazing modality known as Family Constellations. Both have changed my life, and I have no doubt they can change yours too.

One final invitation. Don’t forget to look for signs that you are on the right track. After that conversation in my head, a single white feather floated into my field of vision. I watched it swirl around in the wind near a trash can, and then it suddenly changed direction. To my surprise, it was on a collision course with my heart. I sat there in awe as that beautiful feather touched me right in the middle of my chest before landing between my feet. I choose to believe that was my guardian angel, another voice of Love, telling me I was exactly where I needed to be in that moment.

Until next time, may I remind you that you are enough. You have everything you need. You need do nothing to be loved. And you are exactly where you need to be.

Bunnies and Bison and Bears! Oh MY!

I’m glad to be home after an amazing, miracle-filled 15 days of travel with Dr. Charles Geddes. One of my favorite things about traveling with Charles (besides all the laughing) is that we begin each day with a prayer of intention. The miracles that follow are remarkable! Skies light up. Roads clear. Bears, bison, birds, and bunnies greet us. And swimsuits are 75% off! These are just some of the demonstrations of how our thoughts and intentions create our reality. You don’t have to call it prayer if that word bothers you. Simply taking a moment to be still and setting an intention before beginning any activity will produce miraculous results. I was given the opportunity to see this again during the 41st Annual Big Sky Retreat, the longest running metaphysical retreat in the world!

I’ve been facilitating Family Constellations Workshops for over 3 years now, and this was my third year doing them in Big Sky. It surprised me when I felt nervous and a bit flustered before my first presentation on Sunday. I arrived an hour early to set the sacred space, open the four directions of the Native American Medicine Wheel, and invite the ancestors in, as I do before every workshop. Despite these preparations, I still felt a bit “off.” That’s when two dear friends from the Satya Center in Ogden, UT strolled in for an impromptu visit. Rev. Ali Benjamin and her husband Michael were on their way to another workshop, but when they saw me setting up they stopped in to say hello. I’m so glad they did! Ali could tell I was not myself. Both she and Michael asked if there was anything they could do to help me. I thought about it for a moment, and then realized there was something they could do. I asked them to pray with me.
The three of us stood hand in hand as Michael began a beautiful prayer of allowance and grace before passing the word to Ali who blessed the workshop and all who would be attending. It was wonderful and exactly what I needed to come back to center. I’m happy to report the workshop was fantastic and full of healing and transformation. Ali and Michael were the answers to my unspoken prayer that afternoon. It was a great reminder of the power of prayer and intention. When we have eyes to see and ears to hear, everything we need is provided for us (sometimes even before we ask.)

Another great moment happened during my second workshop the following day. As a resolution was beginning to unfold in the constellation, I glanced out the tall picture windows of the meeting room. Big, white, fluffy snowflakes were falling outside. It was breathtakingly beautiful! That was definitely a first for me during a constellation. The synchronicities in that particular constellation were incredible. After the workshop, one participant asked me, “Does that kind of thing happen every time, John?’ I answered, “Pretty much!” It never ceases to amaze me how everything is connected and has meaning when we come together to do Family Constellations. I am very aware that there is a power much greater than me at work orchestrating it all.
That same benevolent power, whatever we choose to call it, is not limited to Family Constellations Workshops. Doing this work for as long as I have has helped me to see more clearly than ever that this force is also at play in all aspects of my life. If you’d like some assistance seeing evidence of this, now is the time to attend a Family Constellations Workshop or schedule a private session in person, by phone, or via Skype from anywhere in the world. Life Coaching will also help you gain a broader perspective and help you trust the benevolent flow of life. Please look around my new website for more information about both. You’ll save money by registering for an upcoming workshop and paying in advance too!

Until next time, remember to take a quiet moment before you begin any activity. Set an intention. Then let the Universe conspire in your favor to make it happen beyond your wildest dreams.

Soul Contracts: A Blessing or a Curse?

I have the feeling many would agree that Facebook can be both a blessing and a curse at times. This week it most definitely was a blessing for me. I was delighted when Facebook shared a photo of my mother and me taken six years ago at a surprise double birthday party my siblings threw for us. We were standing in front of a very old Olan Mills photo taken not long after my father died. I asked my mother if we could recreate the gaze from the old photo, and the result was very telling. When I saw the picture, it seemed to capture the essence of our “soul contract.” That’s what I call the agreement we make with our parents, siblings, and any other significant relationships in our lives before we show up here on Earth. It’s usually the people that push our buttons and challenge us the most that require us to get out the spiritual magnifying glass to make sure that’s really our signature on the dotted line. I know. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that we signed up for this!
I believe my mother and I signed up for an advanced class on unconditional love. To say we had a challenging journey would be an understatement, but we also had an enormous amount of love for each other. I think that’s evident in both pictures. We seem to be saying with our eyes, “Here we go again! Let’s get it right this time.” I can honestly say I think we did get it right before she made her transition just seven months after that picture was taken. It wasn’t easy, but eventually I got to a place where I was thankful for everything that happened; the good, the bad, and the ugly. For a time, I only understood  intellectually that it all happened exactly as it was supposed to so that I could be where I am today. However, I didn’t completely feel it in my heart.

One afternoon a few days before she passed, my mother was very agitated. She kept yelling “I want to go home! I want to go home!” I was fairly certain she did not mean Upstate New York. After I got my mom settled down for a nap in her hospital bed, I asked the hospice nurse to turn the volume down on her soap opera so I could share an experience with my mom. While holding her hand, I listened to a beautiful CD called “Graceful Passages : A Companion for Living and Dying.” The first track had barely begun when a rush of tears and sobs poured out of me. This continued for most of the hour and fifteen minute CD. During that time, an amazing thing happened. My heart opened to all of it. The residual anger and resentment had been washed away with my tears. Only love remained. I will forever be grateful to Gary Malkin and Michael Stillwater for creating that CD, and to my friend Jennifer for gifting me a copy as my mother neared the end of her life. I highly recommend this gift from Source to anyone who is taking that journey with a loved one. It might just be the key that unlocks your heart too.

Just for a moment, think about that person in your life that seems to be the most challenging. It might be a family member. It might be a former romantic or business partner. Whoever it is, what is the lesson he or she is teaching you? Maybe the lesson is how to love yourself more and not feel the need to get another’s approval. Perhaps it’s how to set clear and healthy boundaries. My mother did a great job of teaching me where the road of anger and resentment leads so I could choose a different road. Maybe there is part of yourself that you are not owning that this teacher is reflecting so you can take a different road too. Here’s the good news. Once you get the lesson, your contract may very well be complete with this person. You either won’t have them in your experience anymore, or at the very least, they won’t take away your peace when you are around them. Who knows? Maybe when Facebook shares a memory of them with you six years later, it will bring a smile to your face instead of a tear.

Are you having a hard time believing you signed one of those “soul contracts?” I would be honored to help you complete those contracts with Family Constellations and Life Coaching. Both are great ways to see things in a new light so you can experience more peace, love, and joy in your life. It really works! Please look around my website for more information and to sign up for a Family Constellations workshop, private session, or a  four, six, or eight week Life Coaching program.
Until next time, take another look at your soul contracts and turn a curse into a blessing!
